about us
The Carlmont High School DECA Chapter provides students with a vast array of opportunities in the field of business. All students (regardless of whether they are enrolled in the business pathway) are invited to attend weekly lunch meetings as well as after school workshops (in Room T10) every Wednesday where they will learn about business topics and participate in skill building activities that demonstrate business concepts. Additionally, all students will have access to professional opportunities whether it be attending field trips to local businesses or attending talks given by local industry professionals.
What is DECA?
DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. Students who are currently enrolled in or have taken the CTE Intro to Business class at Carlmont are invited to compete. Such students are eligible for the Silicon Valley Career Development Conference (SVCDC) on January 6th -8th, 2023, and the California State Career Development Conference (SCDC) on March 3rd-6th, 2023. Both SVCDC and SCDC will take place at the Santa Clara Marriott. Those who qualify at SCDC are also invited to compete at the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Orlando, FL, from April 22th-25th, 2023. Carlmont DECA is proud to boast over 20+ individuals who have staged at conferences along with 15+ qualifiers for ICDC over the past four years!
More information on registration for conferences will be available soon!
Practice makes perfect!
Real improvement comes from continuous practice! Concepts and skills taught in the Marketing Pathway are supplemented by weekly lunch meetings and workshops, along with professional opportunities and mock conferences in order to prepare for competition. Here, students will have the opportunity to work with and get one-on-one feedback from individuals who have succeeded at DECA competition. As a result, we highly encourage students to attend our lunch meetings and after school workshops.
Workshops are held every Thursday after school from 3:30 – 4:30 in Room D10. If you can’t make it to the workshops for some reason (i.e. due to an after school sport), please reach out to us and we’ll do our best to work with you.
